What is NBN?
The National Broadband Network (NBN) is currently being rolled out across Australia. 93% of Australian homes, Schools and Businesses will have high-speed internet and phone access by 2025.
When will I get NBN in my Area?
You can check with your retail phone provider or here: NBN In My Area?
What happens when the NBN is in my Area?
Once the NBN is available in your area you will be notified, there will be an 18 month transition period before Telstra has a regulatory obligation to disconnect your property from the traditional copper wire network. You can call 1800 687 626 or visit www.nbnco.com.au for more information.
How does NBN affect my Monitored Alarm?
If your alarm is connected to your phone line there may be interruptions to your monitoring service. You should contact your alarm monitoring service provider as a precaution. If we monitor your alarm, you can email our service department with any questions or to notify us of the date that your NBN is being installed, so that we can keep an eye on your alarm reporting on that day: service@eclipsesecurity.com.au or call us on 1300 66 11 99.
Does the NBN affect my Monitored Alarm if I have GSM or GPRS Alarm Monitoring?
No, because these types of monitoring do not use a phone landline for communication purposes you will not be affected. However as a precaution, if we monitor your alarm we would like you to call us once the NBN has been installed to ensure that there has been no interference or disconnection of with your alarm monitoring service during the NBN installation.
What do I need to do if my Monitored Alarm Service uses my phone line?
You must tell NBNCo prior to installation, that you have a monitored alarm so that they can install a Uni-V voice port. In our experience this is not full proof, so you will also need to call us to check that your monitoring service has not been disrupted.
How do I make sure that I have done everything correctly?

Every alarm system from Eclipse Security Systems comes with a backup battery already installed. This means that during power outages the alarm system will automatically switch to the backup battery. The battery will keep your alarm system powered for up to 48 hours, depending on how much you use the system during this time. After the main power comes back on, the alarm system will begin recharging the backup battery until it is at full power again. During this time the alarm system will report that the battery is low until fully charged.
There are a couple of ways to find this information:
- We would always recommend that you get a qualified technician to change the battery for you. You can request a service call here : Request a Service Call
- Your Alarm user manual will have the information, you can find a set of user manuals here : User Manual .
- You can open the panel of your alarm system to see the battery. The most common battery is 12v DC Alarm battery and can be purchased from our online store. We do recommend getting a qualified technician to replace the battery as the system will need to be reset and it may void the warranty on your security system.
You should test your alarm system at least once a month if you are using it regularly. If you only use it when you are away from the house for extended periods, always test your alarm before activating the alarm. We also highly recommend 24/7 Alarm Monitoring so that you stay on the right side of your neighbours! Some systems will have a walk test feature, you can check your user manual for info. Regularly checking your alarm ensures it will work properly in case of an actual emergency. If your Alarm is monitored, ensuring that your Alarm is communicating is the main concern. If we monitor your alarm there is no need to worry as we will alert you if there are any issues with your alarm. You can also request a free monthly monitoring report with all our monitoring packages, this will give you details of your alarm activity.

Yes! Studies have shown that property with alarm systems in them are 3 to 4 times less likely to be burgled. Burglars look for places without alarm systems because it’s easier and they have less chance of being caught.
All of our alarm systems come with the option of Pet immune detectors. This way small animals up to 35 pounds will not be detected. But it’s always a good idea that when you get an alarm system to let your pet run around in front of the detectors to make sure they aren’t detected. Even when your alarm system isn’t armed, the detector will still have a small red light show when it sees motion.
