Security Alarm FAQs

With the NBN currently being rolled out across Victoria, “does NBN affect my monitored alarm system” is a common questions we are asked.  We have written an article to help you: Read it, by clicking here .

Eclipse Security Systems has systems that are wireless and therefore ideal for people renting their premises, the systems can move with you.  Alternatively you would need to contact the agent or owner of the property to get their consent to install a hard wired system. To find out more about our wireless system watch the video here: Risco, Agility 3.

Yes! Insurance companies know that you are 3 to 4 times less likely to be burgled if you have an alarm system installed. This means they are less likely to have to pay large insurance claims on stolen property and are willing to give significant discounts to their customers that get monitored security alarms installed in their premises. The level of discount depends on the coverage of the alarm system and the area that the premises is located, for more information contact your insurance company.

Australian standard is to service your alarm system once a year.   If you are monitored with Eclipse Security Systems you can add maintenance to your monitoring package at a discounted price.  This ensures that you do not miss the annual service.  We manage the annual service for you and ensure that any issues that arise such as low battery can be identified and resolved before they are an issue.  Request a quote for monitoring here: Alarm Monitoring

Every alarm system from Eclipse Security Systems comes with a backup battery already installed. This means that during power outages the alarm system will automatically switch to the backup battery. The battery will keep your alarm system powered for up to 48 hours, depending on how much you use the system during this time. After the main power comes back on, the alarm system will begin recharging the backup battery until it is at full power again. During this time the alarm system will report that the battery is low until fully charged.

There are a couple of ways to find this information:

  1. We would always recommend that you get a qualified technician to change the battery for you.  You can request a service call here : Request a Service Call
  2. Your Alarm user manual will have the information, you can find a set of user manuals here : User Manual .
  3. You can open the panel of your alarm system to see the battery. The most common battery is 12v DC Alarm battery and can be purchased from our online store. We do recommend getting a qualified technician to replace the battery as the system will need to be reset and it may void the warranty on your security system.

You should test your alarm system at least once a month, preferably once a week. Some systems will have a walk test feature, you can check your user manual for info.  Regularly checking your alarm, ensures it will work properly in case of an actual emergency. The biggest concern (when your alarm is monitored) is that the phone line is properly connecting to the alarm system.  You can check on your free monthly monitoring report if you are monitored with us or by contacting your monitoring company and requesting a test report (some companies will charge for this report). Testing will confirm that your alarm system has a strong connection to the phones and that the phone lines are working properly. If there ever is a problem that occurs during a test you then can get it fixed before is becomes a serious security issue.

This is a very broad questions and there are a number of things we consider when a client asks us this question.

Yes! Studies have shown that property with alarm systems in them are 3 to 4 times less likely to be burgled. Burglars look for places without alarm systems because it’s easier and they have less chance of being caught.

All of our alarm systems come with the option of Pet immune detectors. This way small animals up to 35 pounds will not be detected. But it’s always a good idea that when you get an alarm system to let your pet run around in front of the detectors to make sure they aren’t detected. Even when your alarm system isn’t armed, the detector will still have a small red light show when it sees motion.
